Generic Job Description for a Public Relations Officer
People who work in Public Relations (also known as PR), are contracted to build, maintain and manage the reputation of organisations. They work on behalf of a range of organisations including public sector organisations, businesses and voluntary organisations.
They use all forms of media and communication including press, television and radio. They aim to build and improve the image of the organisation in the eyes of its customers, shareholders and the wider public.

Pay:
- Entry £15,000
- Management level with 10 years experience £25,000 - £50,000
- 15 – 20 years experience in PR £80,000 or more

Hours:
- Typically 9-5, Monday – Friday
- Evening and Weekend may be work required to achieve deadlines
Environment:
- Office based
- Some travel required to meetings and events
Qualifications:
- A degree in a business related subject is preferred
- Most degree courses require five GCSE’s grades A-C and two A-Levels
Training:
- Most training is on-the-job
- Large consultancies offer training schemes to develop skills
- Training may include work shadowing and attending conferences, workshops, seminars and briefing sessions
