The role of an Ammunition Technician is to test new weapons that become available for army use. This VIP's role involves testing and writing reports on new weapons. They could also be involved in bomb disposal.

Generic Job Description for an Ammunition Technician

 

The Ammo Tech is the Army's expert in explosives, Counter Terrorist Bomb Disposal and everything associated with ammunition, and plays a vital part in delivering the operational capability of the Army in peace and on operations. This is a responsibility that demands high quality individuals with the aptitude to be trained in a wide range of disciplines as well as their military skills.

 

Status: Soldier

Gender: Male/Female

Minimum Starting Age: 16 Years

Maximum Starting Age: 29 Years 11 Months

Minimum Service: 4 Years

 

Skills:

  • Self-motivation
  • Maturity
  • A sense of purpose
  • Good manual dexterity
  • A genuine interest in weapons, ammunition and explosives

  • Travel expected in order to climb the career ladder

Qualifications:

  •  Three GCSEs at grade A to C
  • Subjects must include Maths and one of Physics, Chemistry or Science

Training:

  •  Twelve weeks initial training to learn basic Military Skills
  • 25 weeks foundation training
  • 18 month upgrade course 2-3 years after qualifying

Opportunities:

  •  Good prospects for serving with the forces of other nations
