Mortgage Advisers provide clients with advice on financial matters when they are buying a home or changing their mortgage agreement, making recommendations on ways to utilise money. The role involves advising clients on products and services available, ensuring they are aware of and understand those that best meet their needs, and then securing a sale.
Independent Mortgage Advisors work for themselves and offer products and services from a range of providers. Banks, building societies and lending companies employ advisors to sell their own mortgage products.

Pay:
- Entry £17,000
- £25,000 - £45,000 with experience
- Very Successful Mortgage advisors can earn £50,000 or more

Hours:
- Typically 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
- Evening and weekend work may be required to meet with clients
Environment:
- Typically office based
- Some travel may be required to meet with clients at their homes
- Working from home is common for independent Mortgage Advisors
Qualifications:
- Most Mortgage Advisors are graduates
- Most degree courses require five GCSE passes grades A-C and two A-Levels
Training:
- On-the-job training is essential to keep up to date with new products and services
- Various professional qualifications are available including Certificate in Mortgage Advice (Cert CII MP)
Opportunities:
- Mortgage Advisors can work anywhere in the UK, however opportunities are concentrated around large cities
- Many Mortgage Advisors are self-employed
