Office Administrators, also known as Secretaries, undertake clerical duties and provide administrative support. They are responsible for implementing office procedures, which help to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the office. Offices all sizes and within all kinds of organisations have Administrators.
Office Administrator is often a senior role and can involve the responsibility of overseeing junior staff as well as acting as personal assistant to the manager or director of the business. Other duties are likely to involve telephone and reception work, word processing, filing, maintaining office systems and invoicing.

Pay:
- Entry £15,000
- £18,000 - £25,000 with experience
- £40,000 or more with ten plus years of experience and within the right kind of business

Hours:
- Typically 9am – 5pm, Monday - Friday

Qualifications:
- Entry requirements vary according to employer and sector
- A degree in a secretarial or business related subject can be useful
- Most degree courses require five GCSE’s grades A – C, and two A-Levels
Training:
- Further qualifications are available for work in specialist areas such as legal or medical secretaries
- Much of the training is on-the-job in areas such as health and safety, company procedures and industry legislation
Opportunities:
- Employment can be found in virtually all sectors and organisation types
- Self-employment is uncommon
