Generic Job Description for a Marketing Director
Marketing Directors and Managers are responsible for the marketing of a company or organisation. Marketing is any task that raises awareness of the company or a specific product in order to increase profit. It can cover advertising, promotion, public relations branding and communications.
The main responsibilities of a Marketing Director will vary depending on the size of the company or organisation but can include; product research and development, writing and distributing press releases and marketing material, organising and attending events and exhibitions, managing contact databases, monitoring competitor activity and managing budgets.
Marketing Directors or Managers will often have Marketing Executives or Coordinators working beneath them.

Pay:
- Entry for Director level £25,000 - £30,000
- Entry for Executive/Coordinator Level £18,000 - £23,000
- £40,000 or more with experience

Hours:
- Typically 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
- Extra hours may be required in order to meet deadlines
Environment:
- Office based
- Some travelling required to meet with clients
Qualifications:
- No set entry requirements although a degree or HND in Marketing is often preferred
- Most degree courses require five GCSE passes grades A-C and two A-Levels
- Gaining a Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification may improve chances of securing a position
Training:
- Degree and HND courses last 3-4 years
- Several years of experience in Marketing is required for Director level
- Official Marketing organisations such at the Institute of Direct Marketing offer professional Marketing qualifications
