Generic Job Description for an Infantry Soldier

The British Infantry has an international reputation as being amongst the best soldiers in the world.  Infantry Soldiers are at the forefront of the action when it comes to defeating Britain’s enemies.

Infantry Soldiers are trained to fight in a conventional war and can potentially be posted to anywhere in the world. An Infantry Soldier begins by being a member of a close-knit four-man combat team, sharing a clear target and purpose. They are experts on rifles, machine guns and other specialist infantry weapons.

Maximum Starting Age: 26 Years 11 Months

Minimum Service: 4 Years

Qualifications:

• No set entry requirements
• Basic communication skills required        

Training:

• Training takes a total of 24 weeks and combines Basic training, known as the Common Military Syllabus, and specialist Combat Infantryman training
