Generic Job Description for a Rapier Gunner
The Rapier missile system is one of the most advanced air defence systems in the world. It is capable of tracking multiple targets and actually shooting down two aircraft at the same time. It is used to defend important sites such as airfields, supply depots and headquarters for the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force. Rapier Gunners work as part of a team to bring the missile system into action. They maintain and operate the weapon, prepare the missiles for firing and use highly advanced radars and optical sighting systems to track targets. Rapier Gunners are responsible for distinguishing between friendly and hostile aircraft before firing the missile system to destroy enemy targets. They also use complex radio and computer systems to ensure that they are aware of the current situation on the battlefield.
