The Enterprise Challenge material provides interesting and engaging content to develop Enterprise skills whilst offering knowledge and experience from our Enterprise Board.

Profile: Rachel Elnaugh

Entrepreneur, BBC Dragon's Den TV panellist, Business Speaker, Female Entrepreneur of the Year

Rachel Elnaugh is one of Britain’s highest profile female entrepreneurs.

After starting her working life as an office junior, Rachel founded her first business Red Letter Days in 1989 at the age of just 24, and grew it into a market leading company with an £18 million turnover.

Her appearance on BBC’s cult business show Dragons’ Den shot her into the public eye in early 2005, the only woman on the panel of five Dragons.

Rachel has now been appointed as Chief Executive of the UK’s leading art retailer easyart.com and is involved in a range of other business ventures.

 


 

Profile: Trevor Baylis OBE

Entrepreneur, Inventor, Business Speaker, Winner of various business and design awards.

In 1991, after watching a programme about the spread of AIDS in Africa, Trevor set about developing the wind up radio. His first working prototype ran for 14 minutes and in 1994 was featured on BBC's Tomorrow's World. BayGen Power Industries was set up in Cape Town employing disabled workers to manufacture the wind up radio. In 1996 the invention won the BBC Design Award for Best Product and Best Design.

For many years Inventors have approached Trevor for help and advice. He has now set up Trevor Baylis Brands to provide commercial services to support inventors and entrepreneurs.

Profile: Daniel Ronen

Business Strategist, Author, Lecturer and Consultant.

Director of Portman Business Consultancy Ltd., Daniel is a business strategy expert, consultant, lecturer, author and a specialist in processes that improve business performance. Daniel’s experience in developing and implementing successful strategies to support clients business goals has included working with businesses ranging from global multinationals to small private firms, across a multitude of industries and continents.

An MBA, he has also lectured at Europe’s leading business schools and is a regular contributor to business articles in the national and trade press. Daniel is currently focussing on supporting small and medium size business owners in developing their businesses to realise their quality-of-life aspirations.


Profile: Avril Owton

Mother, Hotelier, Businesswoman,
International speaker, Vice President of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs.

Avril has been the owner of The Cloud Hotel for over 30 years, and her involvement has created an attractive and efficiently run award winning hotel.

She is Vice President of BAWE (British Association of Women Entrepreneurs); founder and organiser of a regional women's network; a regular speaker for the national organisation Everywoman and an active member of the prestigious Institute of Directors.

She has been the subject of many interviews and continues to inspire and motivate people with her fresh, friendly and professional attitude to business.


Profile: Neil Brown

Economics Researcher for Step Ahead Research, an economic and business research agency, specialising in the fields of social, economic and skills research.

Neil joined Step Ahead Research after University, where he studied a broad range of economic, social and political courses.

He graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of York and has recently been accepted to do a Masters degree in Local and Regional Economic Development. Since joining Step Ahead he has been involved in a wide range of economic, skills and business research and has developed a good understanding of data analysis, research and reporting.


 

Profile: Daryl Martin

Business and Charity Consultant, Entrepreneur, founder of various Financial Services Businesses.


Daryl is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has 35 years experience of finance and business management. He owns six small businesses all operating within the financial services industry including an Independent Examination service for charities and a debt management business for individuals.

He consults for charity trustees and company boards, providing financial, legal and marketing input.




Profile: Paul Spenley

Chartered Engineer, business consultant, change specialist and author.

Paul is a Chartered Engineer with a First Degree in electronics and Higher Degree in ‘The Leadership role of managers in the development of Information Systems’. He specialises in Customer Focused Change Management and Business Process Re-engineering.

Paul is the author of two business books in his own right and co-author with Robert Heller of ‘Riding the Revolution’.
